“WHAT’S BEHIND YOUR DAILY CUP OF COFFEE?”
Acrylic paint, coffee stained pine, coffee beans, burlap and other mixed media
43  x 65 x 15 cm

The quotes on the cups and pictures behind illustrate what’s behind our daily coffee: the struggle faced by Tanzanian
coffee farmers for water. First two quotes/pictures refer to categorization of Tanzania by International Water Management
Institute as suffering from not physical but "economic" water scarcity: often clean water’s accessible underground but
population lack financial means to build pumps to access it. Leaving them in the third quote/picture: walking miles to
collect dirty water, without means to sanitize it for drinking. Fourth quote/picture highlights need for water in farming,
and shows progress from coffee seedling, to tree, to coffee beans on kitchen shelf.
