Ink and fine pen on textured art paper
49 x 49 x 1 cm

I use diverse media to investigate time, memory and our interaction with the everyday. Of interest to me are ordinary, often meaningless or overlooked objects and fleeting moments of experience, and the ways in which they are collected, preserved and remembered.
Among the many things I save are my used paper coffee filters that I open up and air dry. After they have dried, I coat them, grounds and all, in clear acrylic. I find beauty and meaning in the traces of grounds and stains on the filter paper. I use the filters to make collages, assemblages and installations. I sometimes include the caps from juice or milk cartons, also saved from my breakfast routine.
My coffee filter work relates to my interest in preserving the everyday ephemera of my life. I like to think that in a small way I am helping the environment by turning trash into art.
