‘Resting Up’ is constructed from a coffee bean sack that was originally woven at the Howrah Jute Mill in India. It has
been cut , appliqued and quilted using a traditional Indian kantha style running stitch. It was inspired by the weavers and
coffee bean plantation workers who work long, arduous hours to produce the coffee that we consume in such vast
quantities. The original printed text on the sack has been cut and re-arranged to include the words ‘resting up’ –
a reference to the hope that those workers also have well earned breaks , as we do when we sit and drink the coffee
they have produced for us.
