"Paperback Coffee"
Coffee on paper
30 x 40 cm (Unframed), 56 x 45.5 cm (Framed)
Paperback Coffee opened this year in an area of west London needing good coffee shops. The painting was produced
over two days as artist in residence: drinking wonderful coffee, having great conversations and painting with their coffee.
The image shows the shop with three costumers: man, woman and child; drinking coffee, reading the paper and chatting.
Pan Papacosta, the proprietor, is about to serve something delicious. I found painting with coffee difficult at first, but
eventually fell in love with the little accidents, which help add atmosphere. The frame was also treated with coffee, and
the whole piece smells lovely.
