The Elf is a portrait painted entirely with coffee. I find that there is a richness and depth of tone in coffee as a medium, that is impossible to achieve with traditional paint. Coffee is my medium of choice for portraiture. The subject is my personal assistant, Isabel, from the days when she first joined me as a student. This painting was exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in the spring of 2016.
